More advice needed. I am looking at buying a disc. Is a 800 pound 7 1/2 foot disc going to be able to do anything to sod? Can I pull this with a Kubota l4330? Thanks for all of your help.

I have a 6 and a half foot that weighs in at 585lbs that I pull with a 790 deere, it will cut sod fairly good with a couple passes. but what works better for me is to pull my box scraper with sacaficers installed on deepest setting around first before disking, it really gives the sod a good workover then the disking doesn't take nearly as long. not to up on tractor you asked about but thats a pretty heavy disk for a 3 pt. style. ....

What plots does works for me too. I use scarifiers across and lengthwise to cut sod into squares. Most of the sod then pulls up with just the pressure of the box on it. The process sounds a little neater than it actually is and it might not work well except on very sandy soil such as ours. I haven't done it for very large areas.

The pulled up squares are fairly easy to remove if that is desirable. I don't have a disc but I imagine that they'd be easy to cut into the soil with a disc it that's the goal. Lot of cutting though, I chewed away at my sod squares with a tiller for quite awhile.

The disc will work and best with some type of soil relief as mentioned earlier in posts. Moldboard plows will give you a deeper area to work and might be needed in some types of soil more. I recommend tillers a lot and they do a real good job. ....

Thanks Everybody. I think I am going to get a Disc and Rototiller. Whats a good rototiller. I have been reading on the site and they go all over the place as far as price. Any suggestions.

I know what I would do. But it is not what has been suggested (except for Art about the moldboard). I would buy a GOOD used moldboard plow, two bottom. That would get you down below the sod and break everything up really well. Then I would use a 7 shank field cultivator. Everyone around here calls them a tiller. They are real good for working a garden also. Not only will this work, but it would save you some money, ....
